Moodle as a Music Box

We have developed a Moodle-based environment using music to make authentic materials accessible to learners of Brazilian Portuguese. Our project combines insights from second language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning (CALL) research to create an environment that enhances the learning experience. Previous research has documented the important role that episodic memory (Graham, Patterson, Powis and Drake, 2002), input frequency (Bybee, 2007), repetition (Nation, 1975, 2001), and speaker variation (Barcroft & Sommers, 2005) play in L2 acquisition. We aim to take advantage of the natural occurrences of these elements in music and use them to facilitate L2 learning.
