Reflection on the development of the first blended teacher certification program in Inuktitut. The Kativik School District in Quebec has partnered with McGill and has traditionally offered intensive face to face courses. The blended program allows participants more time to apply their knowledge and skills in their practice, to engage more thoughtfully with course material, and removes them from their communities for a shorter period. Courses have been re-conceptualized pedagogically and culturally for face to face and online learning. Proposed research involves studying the role of on-site instructional coaches, the effect of tech support in Inuktitut, instructional design, and the role of McGill co-instructors. An invitation will be extended to partner with other researchers involved in distributed learning solutions for aboriginal populations in remote areas.

Using MOODLE in a multilingual environment (English, French & Inuktitut Syllabics)
Publishing content in Inuktitut (font issues, as well as working with an oral culture)
Engaging learners with alternatives to text-based content
Building community and connections in remote areas with low bandwidth
